Itinerary

1. Tag: Arrival in Windhoek, the Capital of Namibia

Arrival in Namibia, Africa, at the international airport in Windhoek. Your African Elegance Safaris Tour consultant shall pick you up and transfer you to our office in Windhoek, where the meet & greet shall be done.

Directly at the airport you can exchange money if you like.

After the meet and greet your rental car briefing will be done with you and you shall receive our 24h emergency number, where someone will always be available for you should there be any challenges during your Safari.

Windhoek is an excellent start for your stay in Namibia, because you have enough time to get used to the new climate and the new environment. Explore Windhoek and get a little insight into the life of the locals. Also marvel at the imposing buildings from German colonial times and stroll through the small alleys and streets with its cozy restaurants and cafes.

2. – 1. Tag: Waterberg Plateau National Park

(F/A)

After breakfast, you shall drive north to Waterberg Plateau Park, where your next hideaway is set amidst lush vegetation on the edge of the Waterberg Plateau. Each of the spacious chalets offers its own plunge pool overlooking the endless bush savannah.

Waterberg

  • one of the biggest sights in north central Namibia
  • 50 km long and 16 km wide table mountain
  • rises up to 200 m out of the plain
  • fascinating geological formation
  • year-round bubbling springs on the south eastern slopes
  • one of the most biodiverse flora areas in southern Africa (500 species)
  • Plateau declared a national park in 1972
  • home to rare game species such as sable antelope, buffalo, black and white rhino

2. – 3. Tag: Ongava Private Game Reserve

(F/A)

Your romantic safari takes you to the Ongava Private Game Reserve, which borders directly to the Etosha National Park.

Here you will spend the next two days in a luxurious African Safari Lodge room with your own balcony and panoramic views.
You will have the opportunity to shop at the Spar Supermarket on the way there in the small town of Outjo. In Outjo there is a good bakery and gas stations. It is recommended to use the new gas station at the southern park entrance: Etosha Trading Post.

In the national park gasoline or diesel are often not in stock. Especially for vehicles without a double tank this is a good opportunity to fill up again.

The park is one of the great game reserves in the world and is considered one of the most outstanding game parks in Africa.
Etosha National Park was founded in 1907 and is one of the most attractive national parks in southern Africa. In the afternoon you will already explore the park and with a little luck you will meet big game again and again. On the way you stop at the signposted water points.

Note if you want to stay in the park:

The camps in Etosha National Park are owned by the government. Although the accommodations have been renovated for the 100th anniversary of Etosha National Park, they are maintained and serviced by more or less motivated government employees. Mostly they are clean, but by no means luxurious. More luxurious accommodations are available outside the park. We would be happy to make you an offer for accommodation in the park.

Day 2

After sunrise and a fortifying breakfast, you will set out again for a game drive, with your four-wheel drive vehicle.

From your accommodation you can explore the southern part of the national park. In the evening you will leave the park again through the Andersson Gate, hopefully with many great safari impressions.

4. Tag: Twyflefontein

(F/A)

After breakfast, continue west to Damaraland, one of the most sparsely populated places on earth. Damaraland is home to the unique desert elephant and a free-ranging rhino population. Your lodge, nestled among huge boulders, takes you through stunning landscapes of eroded dry riverbeds and rocky plains.

The “Damaraland” is part of the Kunene region in the northwest of Namibia, situated approximately between the Brandberg and the village of Sesfontein. The Damaraland impresses with a rocky and rugged landscape of enchanting beauty.

Interesting things in Damaraland

  • Brandberg
  • Damara Living Museum
  • Twyfelfontein
  • Petrified Forest
  • Vingerklip (on the way)

5. Tag: Swakopmund

(F)

Travel through Damaraland to the town of Swakopmund, idyllically situated between the waves of the Atlantic Ocean and the majestic dunes of the Namib Desert. Explore the palm-lined streets and boardwalks on foot or enjoy a glass of champagne on the jetty as the sun sets.

The town is still inhabited by descendants of former colonists and state officials from the German colonial era. German baked goods, German architecture, as well as the German language that is still often spoken are remnants from that history. Swakopmund is also the starting point for many adventure activities. We recommend a boat tour near Walvis Bay or a desert safari, where you can get to know the small creatures of the desert.

In the immediate vicinity of Swakopmund (and the town of Walvis Bay, 30 km to the south), numerous activities can be undertaken, including boat tours, exciting desert tours (The desert is alive!), quad bike safari, kayak tours and much more.

In contrast to the desert, it will be a bit cooler at your next destination, because in Swakopmund, probably the most German city in Namibia, you may enjoy the fresh sea breeze at the Atlantic Ocean.

Please also always take a jacket with you for excursions!

Restaurant recommendations in Swakopmund:

  • Ocean Cellar @ Strand Hotel
  • The TUG
  • Old Steamers at Altebruecke Resort
  • Brewer & Butcher @ Strand Hotel
  • Altstadt Restaurant

Namib sightseeing flights
Exclusive and luxurious fly-in safaris are offered to many of Namibia’s coastal attractions. Highlights are the Namib Desert and Sossusvlei, Sandwich Harbour, the Skeleton Coast with its many shipwrecks, Kuiseb Canyon, Cape of the Cross with its huge seal colony and much more.

6. – 7. Tag: Sesriem & Sossusvlei

(F/A)

After breakfast, your journey takes you south through the wide open plains of the Namib Desert to your lodge, which is the perfect gateway to exploring Deadvlei and Sossusvlei. Here, some of the highest dunes on earth tower over the white desert plains.

Dead Valley Lodge is located within the Namib Naukluft Park. On the way, gorgeous landscapes along the Namib rim give you an idea of what to expect over the next few days.

Your accommodation for the next two nights is located near Sesriem. Enjoy the picturesque desert landscape. Optionally, you can join a nature tour to admire this unique environment in the play of light and shadow of the sunset. You will end the evening comfortably with a delicious meal.

Punctually 1 hour before sunrise the gate of the national park will be opened.

Embark on an early drive and visit the fascinating dune landscape of the Namib Naukluft Park. You will park at the huge dunes of Sossusvlei / Dead Vlei and can walk part of the way. Alternatively, you can use a four-wheel drive vehicle transfer (payment on site).

Climb one of the dunes, which are up to 300 meters high, as the sweaty climb is rewarded by a breathtaking view over the sea of dunes. Then head to Sesriem Canyon, which sometimes carries water from the Tsauchab River and can be hiked in dry seasons. After your explorations, you will drive back to your accommodation.

You can easily do this day trip into the desert on your own and even drive a little soft sand with the 4 × 4.

Or you can book this excursion with a professional guide to discover the little secrets of the Sossusvlei. We are happy to book a guided excursion as an option for you.

8. – 10. Tag: Greater Windhoek

(F/A)

After an optional morning activity and a delicious breakfast, you will drive back towards Windhoek.

You will reach the rental car company that afternoon and drop off your vehicle. You will then be driven to Gocheganas Lodge, just outside of Windhoek.

Gocheganas Lodge is a luxury lodge located just 29 kilometers southeast of Windhoek on a hill overlooking spectacular scenery, offering a unique combination of wildlife, nature and wellness experiences. With 25 different species of wildlife in a 6000-hectare nature reserve, game drives and walking activities are welcomed as an enriching experience. World-class wellness facilities and treatments ensure renewal of body, mind and spirit.
