The Strand Hotel Swakopmund is a social epicenter and destination for all visitors and residents of Swakopmund with its extensive, unique and creatively entertaining restaurants, bars, deli, lobby lounge, sea view terraces, beach kiosk and state-of-the-art conference and banquet center on the pier, a historic and iconic location surrounded by the sea on three sides.
Its architectural inspiration finds its roots deep in Namibian-German history and reflects this in a tasteful contemporary manner. The interiors are residential in nature, and the task to all designers involved was to create a non-hotel, hotel. A city as charming and welcoming as the city in which it is located. Just very warm and cozy, and as they say in German, “gemütlich” provides a real sense-of-place atmosphere that adds to any visit to Namibia.
Arriving at the beach is a dramatic experience as you pass through its 13m-high, 9m-wide Ocean View Atrium, which runs directly through the hotel and offers ocean views at both ends. Off this atrium lobby is the reception area, consisting of three individual desks and an inviting open fireplace that rounds out the residential property and warm welcome.
