Most visitors travel through this camp, which also houses the Etosha Ecological Institute. Okaukuejo Rest Camp was originally a military outpost established in 1901 to which a tower was added in 1963. Okaukuejo is situated in the south of the Etosha National Park and only 17 km from the Anderson Gate. In Okaukuejo you have the choice between different types of accommodation and you will also find a petrol station and a small shop. On warm days you can cool off in the swimming pool or enjoy the drinks and food offered in the restaurant. Already from the early morning hours, animals are active for which the waterhole is a popular place to go. Especially during winter, a large number of animals gather in the vicinity of the waterhole to quench their thirst. After sunset, the waterhole is floodlit and is one of the best places to spot the endangered black rhino. This archaic animal can often be seen drinking together with lions and elephants. The quantity and interaction of the different animals are the main attraction of Okaukuejo Rest Camp.

  • The Waterhole Chalets are ideally situated so that guests can see the animals from their terrace or balcony. All chalets have their own bathroom and are available as double or two-bedroom Premier Chalet.
  • The Bush Chalet offers a spacious living area with a lounge, barbecue facilities and an en-suite bathroom.
  • Comfortable double rooms with private bathroom, fridge and kettle for making tea.
  • The campsite with communal washrooms is ideal for nature lovers.
