Itinerary

1. Day: Arrival in Windhoek – The Capital of Namibia

Arrival in Africa.  An African Elegance staff member will meet you at Windhoek International Airport and transfer you to Windhoek.
You can change money directly at the airport.

Once you have picked up your hire car, you will receive detailed information about your trip and, of course, the contact details of your contact person, who will always be available for you during your journey.

Windhoek is an excellent starting point for your stay in Namibia, as you’ll have plenty of time to get used to the new climate and environment. Explore Windhoek and get a glimpse of local life. Admire the imposing buildings dating from the German colonial era and stroll through the narrow streets lined with cosy restaurants and cafés.
Enjoy a romantic dinner at Leo’s at the Castle.

A gourmet restaurant in the Heinitzburg Hotel. Leo’s at the Castle overlooks the capital’s skyline. The varied cuisine guarantees a feast for the senses.

Accommodation included

2. Day: Kalahari Desert

(F/A)

You begin your journey to the Kalahari after a hearty breakfast with a view of Windhoek.

The red dunes of the Kalahari are becoming more and more numerous. After a journey of around 3 to 4 hours, you arrive at your first accommodation in Namibia. The lodge is beautifully situated between the red dunes of the Kalahari.

The brilliant blue sky provides a magnificent contrast to the red dunes. Enjoy a fascinating sunset drive over the lodge grounds and perhaps see your first springbok or oryx antelope.

3. – 4. Day: NamibRand Nature Reserve

(F/A)

Today we enter the heart of the oldest desert in the world, the famous Namib. Discover the steep passes that lead from the Namibian highlands to the low plains of the Namib Desert.

Your luxury safari will take you to Wolwedans Dunes Camp, located directly in the Namib Rand Nature Reserve.

Here you will spend the next two days on a luxury African safari, with your own tent and panoramic views. Dune Camp offers a down-to-earth yet elegant experience. It has an incomparable natural charm that will appeal to young travellers in search of adventure.

Dune Camp sits on the edge of a 250-metre-high dune and can accommodate a maximum of 12 to 16 guests in absolutely spectacular surroundings. The tents are set on wooden platforms and are comfortable and spacious, with a private bathroom.

At Wolwedans, it’s all about exploring the vast expanses of this part of Namibia, with excursions in open 4×4 safari vehicles or guided hikes in search of the flora and fauna that survive in this rugged landscape, all in all, a stay at Dune Camp is a very relaxed and enjoyable experience.

Day 2

Activities in the NamibRand Nature Reserve

Experience the desert skies from a hot air balloon, take a day safari to some of Namibia’s most remote natural wonders or discover the true grandeur of NamibRand on a walking safari.

5. – 6. Day: Swakopmund

(F)

After an early breakfast, we head north. A stop at the Solitaire bakery is a must for a cup of coffee. Later, you will arrive in the small coastal town of Swakopmund. The town is populated by the descendants of former colonisers and civil servants from the German colonial era. German specialities, German architecture and the German language, which is still often heard, are remnants of this history.

Swakopmund is also the starting point for many entertaining activities. We recommend a boat trip near Walvis Bay or a desert safari, where you can discover the small animals of the desert.

The area around Swakopmund (and the town of Walvis Bay, 30km to the south) offers a wide range of activities, including boat tours, exciting desert excursions (the desert lives!), quad bike safaris, kayak tours and much more.

Unlike the desert, it’ll be a little cooler at your next destination, because in Swakopmund, arguably Namibia’s most German town, you’ll get to enjoy the fresh sea breeze on the Atlantic coast.

Please always take a jacket for excursions!

Excursions to book:

Catamaran Charters

Catamaran Charters offers boat trips in the Walvis Bay lagoon aboard four luxury catamarans. In search of the Big 5 of the seas, guests will enjoy an unforgettable experience.

Historian Dune Tour

The Historian Dune Tour by Fanie du Preez, head of Kuiseb Delta Adventures, is a special feature of all the activities on offer in and around Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

Kajak Tour “Eco Marine”

Eco Marine Tour organises kayak tours in the Walvis Bay lagoon. Nowhere else can you get so close to flamingos and pelicans, fur seals and Heaviside and Benguela dolphins as in your own kayak.

Living Desert Tour

With didactic refinement, charisma and a great deal of humour, the guides explain the flora and fauna of the desert world around Swakopmund. Starting with a short excursion to the mouth of the Swakop River, we follow a trail through the dunes of Dorob National Park, proclaimed in 2010.

Namib Sightseeing Flights

Exclusive and luxurious air safaris are offered to many of the sights along the Namibian coast. Highlights include the Namib Desert and Sossusvlei, Sandwich Harbour, the Skeleton Coast with its many shipwrecks, Kuisebcanyon, Kreuzkap with its huge seal colony and much more.

Sandwich Harbour 4×4

The magnificent dunes of the Namib meet the harshness of the Atlantic Ocean: the “Sandwich Harbour 4 × 4” 4×4 excursion to Sandwich Harbour, south of Walvis Bay, is unique in terms of scenery, exciting and brilliantly organised.

Swakopmund

Swakopmund, the metropolis of the Erongo region and home to around 34,000 people, offers a multitude of activities for the gentle and the excitable.

7. Day: Twyfelfontein & Palmwag

Today, you will travel to Palmwag via Twyfelfontein. You can take the coastal route or cross the interior of the country. We’ll be happy to discuss this when we meet in Windhoek.

You can plan take a detour to visit the more than 2,000 rock engravings listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also visit a living museum of the Damara ethnic group. It is advisable to leave Swakopmund early.

Other nearby wonders include the Petrified Forest and the Valley of the Organs. An incomparable experience of Damaraland are the desert elephants, who travel along the dry rivers in search of water and food. With a bit of fortune and a friendly guide, they can be watched on open 4×4 wildlife safaris (available on request from various lodges).

8. – 9. Day: Ongava Private Game Reserve

(F/A)

Today you head to the wildlife kingdom of Etosha National Park, another highlight of your trip to Namibia. You will be staying outside the national park.

En route, you can do your shopping in the small village of Outjo, at the Spar supermarket. Outjo also has a good bakery and petrol stations. We recommend using the new filling station at the southern entrance to the park: Etosha Trading Post.

There are often shortages of petrol and diesel in the national park. This is a good place to fill up, especially for vehicles without dual tanks. The park is one of the world’s great game reserves and is considered one of Africa’s most remarkable wildlife parks.

Etosha National Park was founded in 1907 and is one of the most attractive national parks in southern Africa. In the afternoon, you explore the park and, with a bit of luck, regularly come across big game. Along the way, you will stop at the indicated waterholes.

On-site activities included – (some may be seasonal)

  • Birdwatching
  • Approach excursions
  • Wildlife watching
  • Nature walks
  • Rhino approach
  • Photographic bunker

Note for those wishing to stay in the park:

Although the accommodation has been renovated for the centenary of Etosha National Park, it is maintained by more or less motivated government employees. Most are clean, but by no means luxurious. More luxurious accommodation is available outside the park. We will be happy to make you an offer for accommodation in the park.
